CoachAI's Session Generator takes the hard work out of planning training. Fill in a short form, hit Generate, and you'll have a full session plan — drills, progressions, and coaching points — in seconds. Here's exactly how to use it.
Step 1: Open the Session Generator
Log in to your CoachAI account at coachai.uk. You'll find the Session Generator in the top navigation bar. You can also reach it from your dashboard — look for the "Create Session" card or button. Click either to open the form.
Step 2: Fill In the Form
The form has five fields. Each one helps the AI tailor the session to your group:
- Age Group — Select the age bracket you're coaching (e.g. U8, U10, U14). This shapes the complexity of the drills and the language used in coaching points.
- Format — Choose the match format your players train for (e.g. 5v5, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11). The AI uses this to set appropriate pitch sizes and player numbers for each drill.
- Focus Area — Pick the technical or tactical theme for the session (e.g. passing, pressing, finishing, defending as a unit). Be as specific as you can — "short passing in tight spaces" will give you better results than just "passing."
- Duration — Enter how long you have available in minutes. The session structure will be timed to fit.
- Development Stage — Choose where your players are in their development (e.g. beginner, intermediate, advanced). This affects drill complexity and the coaching points the AI prioritises.
Step 3: Generate the Session
Once the form is filled in, click the Generate button. The AI (powered by GPT-4o) will build your session plan in a few seconds. You'll see a progress indicator while it works — no need to refresh the page.
Step 4: Read the Generated Session
Your session appears in two views:
- Blueprint View — A quick summary layout showing the session structure at a glance: warm-up, main drills, and cool-down. Great for a fast overview before you print or save.
- Full Session View — The complete plan, including drill descriptions, setup instructions, progressions (ways to make each drill harder or easier), and coaching points for each activity. Read through this before your session so you know exactly what to say and when.
If the plan doesn't feel right for your group, click Regenerate — the AI will produce a new version. You can do this as many times as you need.
Step 5: Save the Session
When you're happy with the plan, click Save to Dashboard. The session is stored in your CoachAI account and accessible any time. You won't lose it between devices.
Step 6: Find Your Saved Sessions
To come back to a saved session, go to your Dashboard and look for the Saved Sessions section. All your plans are listed there, most recent first. Click any session to reopen it in full.
Tips and Common Questions
The more detail you put in, the better the output. Vague inputs (e.g. "U10, 60 mins, passing") produce generic sessions. Specific inputs (e.g. "U10, 7v7, receiving with back foot, 60 mins, beginner") produce sessions that feel like they were written for your team.
Not happy with the result? Regenerate it. The AI doesn't repeat itself exactly — a second or third generation often produces a noticeably different plan. It's free to do and only takes a few seconds.
Can I edit the session after it's generated? You can use the plan as a starting point and adapt it yourself on paper or in another tool. Editing directly within CoachAI may be added in a future update.
How long does generation take? Usually under 10 seconds. If it takes longer, check your internet connection and try again.
