Setting up your squad on CoachAI takes a few minutes and saves you time every matchday. Once your players are in the system, the Matchday Planner can use them to help you build lineups fast.
Step 1: Go to Your Squads
Open CoachAI and head to the Matchday Planner. At the top of the page, click the My Squads tab. This is where all your squads live — and where you'll create new ones.
Step 2: Create a New Squad
Click Create Squad. You'll be asked to give your squad a name — something like "U14s — Sunday Rangers" works well. Then choose your format (for example, 11v11). Hit save, and your squad is ready to have players added.
Step 3: Add Your Players
Inside your squad, click Add Player. Fill in the player's name and age, then move on to positions — covered in the next step. Repeat this for each player in your group. You can add as many players as you need.
Step 4: Assign Positions Using Multi-Select
When adding or editing a player, you'll see a position selector. This lets you pick more than one position for the same player. For example, you might mark a player as both a central midfielder and a right midfielder. This is really useful — it gives CoachAI more flexibility when suggesting lineups, and means versatile players can show up in the right spots.
Step 5: Edit or Remove Players
To make changes, find the player in your squad list and click Edit. You can update their name, age, or positions at any time. If a player leaves the team, use the Remove option to take them out of the squad. Keeping this list accurate helps the planner work at its best.
Step 6: Run Multiple Squads
If you coach more than one group — say an U14s and an U16s — you can create a separate squad for each. Just go back to the My Squads tab and hit Create Squad again. Each squad is completely independent, with its own players and settings.
Step 7: Use Your Squad in the Matchday Planner
Once your squad is set up, head to the Matchday Planner. Your players will appear automatically, ready for you to drag into a formation. The positions you assigned will guide the planner so players appear in the right areas of the pitch.
Tips
- Keep your squad current. Add new players as soon as they join, and remove anyone who has left. An outdated squad makes the planner less useful.
- Assign multiple positions where you can. The more flexibility you give the system, the better the lineup suggestions it can make.
- Name your squads clearly. If you manage several teams, a clear name (like "U16s — Midweek Training Group") makes it easy to find the right one quickly.
- You don't need to be finished to start. You can add more players later, so don't wait until your full roster is confirmed before setting things up.
